How to measure prying force in bolted connection

This is another useful construction tutorial from Dr. Chirag Patel. In this video, you will learn how to make detail measurement for "Prying Force" in bolted steel structural connection as well as remove it’s effect.

In a tension or hanger connection, the operative load creates tension in the bolts and the bolts are designed as tension members. If the connected plate is admissible to deform, supplementary tensile forces known as prying forces are developed in the bolts.

In this video example is given for verifying the exact capacity of a D hanger connection based on the following dimension :-
Bolt Diameter = 30 mm
Bolt Grade = 4.6
Dimension of end plate = 230 x 150 mm
Thickness of T-flange = 32 mm
The connection will not collapse if the tension capacity is higher than total load. Here, tension capacity is taken as 200 kN.
To learn the detail calculation process, go through the following video tutorial.

How to calculate the height of an object on the basis of given angle & distance

By watching this construction video tutorial, you will be able to work out the height of any object on the basis of angle and distance provided. It is very useful for surveyors.

In brief, the height of an object is determined by calculating the distance from the object and the angle of elevation of the top of the object.

The tangent of the angle refers to the object height that is divided by the distance from the object. In this way, the height is obtained.
The calculation is made on the basis of the following formula :-
SinØ = P/H = Perpendicular/Hypotenuse
CosØ = B/H = Base/Hypotenuse
TanØ = P/B = Perpendicular/Base
Suppose, in a triangle, the angle is taken as 45 degree. The opposite of the angle should be always taken as perpendicular and opposite site of the perpendicular should be taken as hypotenuse. The horizontal line is taken as base and it’s measurement is 10 meter.
Now, all the values should be put on the above formulas to check which one is matched to determine the height. Watch the following video tutorial to learn the remaining calculation process.

Concept of Stress and Strain Curve/Diagram

This construction video tutorial will introduce you to the stress and strain curve/diagram for steel structures.
Definition of stress
When an applied force creates alteration in the dimension of the material, then the material is supposed to be in the state of stress. The stress can be detected by dividing the applied force (F) by the cross sectional area (A).
Definition of strain
When the dimension is altered in regard to the original dimension because of stress, it is called as strain. It is described with the symbol epsilon.
ε = x/ L
For a shear force, strain is stated with γ (gamma)
Stress strain curve belongs to a behavior of material when it has to withstand load. If a ductile material like mild steel has to pass through the tensile test, then it moves through different phases prior to fracture.
These phases are given below :-
1. Proportional Limit
2. Elastic Limit
3. Yield Point
4. Ultimate Stress Point
5. Breaking Point
The stress-strain diagram varies in form for different materials.
To acquire stress-strain diagrams, a graph or curve is drawn from the data that has been found in a tensile test. The modifications occurred in length can be detected and recorded through various strain measuring devices.

Construction Estimator and Bidding mobile app

This exclusive video tutorial is presented by SnappiiApp. The Construction Estimator and Bidding mobile app is designed for contractors, service companies, salespeople and estimators to quickly create on-site estimates for construction and repair projects.

The app allows to quantify material, labor, subcontract and other costs needed to complete a construction project.

It will also do all the calculations, so once all the data is entered in, the user will get the total estimated project cost.

This app is available in Google Playwww.play.google.com
